If you see your child scratching away at his or her head, it’s most likely he or she has lice. On closer inspection, an itchy scalp will have a lot of red welts going all the way to the nape of the neck, and the white specks on the strand of hair, which are actually nits, confirm that your child is infected with lice.

While most concerned parents resort to a doctor’s prescription to get the right anti-lice treatment, there are also a number of head lice home remedies that you could use, right in the comfort of your home.

Before you begin treatment, make sure that the white flecks you find in your child’s hair are nits and not dandruff. The difference is quite easy to detect. Dandruff normally originates from the scalp; whereas nits are attached to the hair strand with its hair shaft.

If you see actual lice moving about in your child’s scalp, you might want to get immediate medical treatment and not just home remedies. If all you can see are nits, then you can go ahead with these simple home remedies.

One quite effective way is to suffocate the lice by applying a thick coat of mayonnaise and then cover the head tightly with a wrap, leaving no room for air to get in. After about two hours, rinse the hair out well using an anti-lice shampoo. Comb out dead lice and nits with a lice comb. For best results, repeat this process twice. Instead of mayonnaise, olive oil, hair conditioners, baby oil or heavy henna hair cream may also be used instead. Of all these options, olive oil is the best solution, as it softens the shell of the lice, making them more vulnerable and therefore much easier to remove.

Using herbal remedies is another way to combat this problem. Certain essential oils and tea tree oils have been used for removing lice, but exactly how effective is this method is uncertain. The drawback in this method is that it is not recommended for very young kids as it may irritate their skin and scalp. If at all it must be used on young children, an allergy test is required. However, herbal remedies are better used on older children.

Another remedy is Benzyl Alcohol Lotion. 5% of this lotion can be applied to your child’s’ hair for 10 minutes, making sure each strand of hair is covered in lotion. Clean hair using a lice comb and then shampoo thoroughly preferably using an anti-lice shampoo. Repeating this process weekly will ensure your child has no lice or nits. It’s an effective way to kill lice by crippling their respiratory tract. However, precautions are necessary. Make sure your child is nor allergic to Benzyl Alcohol Lotion and is above six months old.

Lastly, having a good anti-lice shampoo at home is a must to finish off any anti-lice treatment that you have done. Other than being easy to use, it’s a good way to control lice infestation.

Head lice thrive on humans as hosts and mostly live on human head and neck. Feeding off of human blood, they try to stay as close to the skin or scalp as possible. They use their six lags to firmly attach to hair shaft and move around. These legs are the reason head lice treatment can be somewhat difficult.

The female head lice lay eggs, also known as nits whose color ranges from white to gray. If you have natural dark brown hair like me, having your head infested with gray head lice is truly a nightmare. I remember hours of tedious head lice treatment my mom performed that I had to endure. White ones are very difficult to detect if a person has blond. They seem to use good camouflage.

If the incubation is successful, they morph into baby nymphs. The louse goes from a nit, to baby nymph to a full-grown louse.

Head lice prevention

Wash your head regularly to minimize the risk. Head lice are not a sign of bad hygiene, but washing the hair and thus the scalp, might just help, so why not?

Shaving your hair off is fine if you are a guy, but what do you do if you are a female? For longer hair, the best “tool” to help you prevent head louse from multiplying is a nit or head louse comb available at any store.

Home remedy for head lice

Head lice oil

Ingredients

* 10 drops of rosemary essential oil

* 10 drops of lavender essential oil

* 2 tablespoons of olive oil

Olive oil serves as a carrier oil, it dilutes the other essential oils keeping them from quick evaporation.

Rosemary and lavender will kill and smother the lice.

Preparation and use

* Add the essential oil to the olive oil

* Massage the scalp and apply all over the hear

* Put a shower cap on and leave on for 1 hour

* Wash off using a head louse shampoo following the instructions on the bottle

Head lice treatment lotion

The rosemary and lavender essential oils in this lotion kill the nits, and vinegar makes it easier for them to slide down the hair shaft.

Ingredients

* 6 drops of rosemary essential oil

* 6 drops of lavender essential oil

* 5 deciliters of apple vinegar

* 5 deciliters of warm water

Preparation

* Mix both oils with vinegar and warm water

* Use the lotion to thoroughly wash the hair and scalp

* Put a shower cap on

* Leave it on for 15 minutes

* Use the head louse hair comb to comb the hair thoroughly and then wash the hair off using warm water

After this, wash the hair with head louse shampoo using the instructions on the bottle.

Thyme shampoo

Ingredients

* 1 teaspoon of ordinary hair shampoo (baby shampoo will do)

* 2-3 drops of essential thyme oil

When we say thyme, we usually think of food and oil wide use in food preparation. However, thyme and essential thyme oil are great antiseptics and disinfectants, and also great natural insecticides. Thyme essential oil shouldn’t be used undiluted so you need to this:

Preparation

* Mix the essential thyme oil with shampoo

* Massage the scalp and apply all over the hair

* Leave on for 5 minutes and wash off using lukewarm water

* Following the instructions, use a commercial head louse shampoo

Tea tree oil remedy

Ingredients

* 20 drops of tea tree oil

* 2 oz of olive oil

* 10 drops each of: rosemary essential oil, lavender essential oil, and lemon essential oil

Preparation

* Combine the ingredients and apply to dry hair

* Cover with shower cap, wrap a towel around it, and leave on for 2 hours

* Rinse off using a regular shampoo until you remove all the residue

Wikipedia.org also suggests blending equal amounts of vinegar and olive oil and adding 20 drops of tea tree oil.

Apply the mixture to damp hair, massage and comb the hair. Wrap the hair in a plastic bag for 3 or more hours. Use this head louse treatment for 10 days or at least repeat in 4 to 5 days.

Lice infestations can affect anybody regardless of age or social standing. Lice are usually common in children and telltale signs of an infestation include head scratching. Lice are little bloodsucking insects that stay in a person’s head and hair. Their bites cause the itchiness and can also leave red marks on a person’s scalp.

There are many ways of getting rid of lice naturally. Head lice home remedies have often been used in order to eradicate this problem. These remedies can range from the application of various topical applications that have been concocted to manual methods that have been used for generations. Although many advocates of commercial products do not generally advise the use of home remedies, anecdotal evidence does exist in conjunction with such treatments.

Managing lice infestations begins with prevention. A good way of preventing it is through proper sanitation and hygiene. Sharing clothing with an affected person is not advised, as this may be one of the ways by which the infestation can be transmitted. Proper inspection and early detection in other members of the family would also aid in preventing the spread of the infestation.

Removing the nits on a person’s hair guarantees that the infestation will stop and not occur again. When talking about nit removal, nothing beats the tried and tested method of brushing a person’s hair when an infestation has been detected. Brushing is usually done with the use of lice combs or nit combs in order to pull out the eggs (nits) or lice in a person’s hair. Others have also recommended using flea combs as these work better than available lice combs. The removal of nits using a comb is also done in conjunction with the killing and removal of lice that are spotted crawling around on the scalp or hair.

Washing the hair with vinegar and oil has also been recommended. This involves applying equal amounts of vinegar and oil on the hair and covering the head with a shower cap for about an hour. Other oils such as tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil and olive oil in combination have also been recommended in lice treatments. The hair is then washed with regular shampoo afterwards. Other methods of killing lice include running hair-straightening irons through the hair after brushing. The rationale behind this method is that nits and lice would not be able to survive the heat. Other home made remedies in treating lice include applying Listerine on the hair, since the chemicals found in the mouth wash may also aid in the removal of the nits and the lice.

All remedies in lice infestation treatment focus mainly on the removal and killing of lice and the nits. Head lice home remedies may or may not be effective but the bottom line is this-if the lice and nits are removed, the lice infestation is over. Proper usage of the techniques and methods that have been enumerated can lead to the end of the lice problem. A combination of these methods and a few trial and errors wouldn’t hurt as well.

For many years people have relied upon simple head lice home remedies using a variety of common ingredients, many of which can quickly be found right in your bathroom’s medicine cabinet, for getting rid of these tiny yet rather troublesome pests.

If you’re wary of commercial products and treatments or simply prefer a more natural approach without resorting to harsh chemicals, here are a few lice home remedies to try using all natural ingredients.

Herbal Oils

Essential herbal oils are gentle on the hair and scalp and are one of the most commonly used head lice home remedies relied upon throughout the ages. Essential oils should not be used alone but rather with a carrier agent, such as baby oil, olive oil, or ordinary shampoo.

Try mixing three tablespoons of olive oil, one teaspoon eucalyptus oil, and one teaspoon of tea tree oil into shampoo and applying to the hair. Leave in place for at least a half hour while covering the head completely and securely with a shower cap.

Some other essential herbal oils you may want to use for getting rid of head lice include oil of coconut, geranium, lavender, lemon, and rosemary.

Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum jelly is extremely difficult to remove from hair; however, it makes a highly useful substance for suffocating head lice effectively. Apply petroleum jelly to the entire head, including the scalp and working until every strand of hair is saturated and covered leaving in place for about a half hour or so.

Several shampoos will be needed but sprinkling baby powder or white flour on the scalp before shampooing and allowing it to absorb some of the petroleum jelly should help with removal.

Rubbing Alcohol

Head lice home remedies involving alcohol are a bit different than others using ingredients found in the bathroom medicine cabinet. Rubbing alcohol should only be used to clean and soak everyone in the house’s brushes, combs, hair clips, barrettes, or headbands. Soak everything in rubbing alcohol for at least one hour. Scalding hot water can also be used, or you may simply choose to throw the brushes away and buy new items if the infestation is widespread amongst members of the household.

Shaving Cream

Using the type of shaving cream that foams, apply to the entire head, including the scalp and every strand of hair and allow to set for approximately a half hour. The chemicals within the shaving cream will kill lice and their eggs, and because chemicals are used on the hair, it may become overly dry after treatment. Be sure to thoroughly condition the hair after using shaving cream to replenish some of the hair’s protective oils that were lost during treatment.

Head lice home remedies have been passed down in families from one generation to the next and they have withstood the test of time despite the influx of commercial products intended for killing lice and their eggs. Because home remedies use non-toxic, and mostly all natural ingredients, multiple treatments or applications may be necessary to completely eradicate the lice. But, without the worry of allergic reactions to the chemicals within store bought treatments, many people feel the extra effort is worth it.

Lice infestations can be dealt with using commercially available products that may or may not be effective. These products could cost a fortune, yet the expected results can still fall flat. Then again, lice infestations can also be dealt with treatments straight from your kitchen-lice killing home remedies that have been used by mothers since time immemorial.

Lice are nasty little bloodsuckers that usually stay in your child’s hair and scalp. They lay their eggs called nits, on the hair and wreak havoc on a person. Once the eggs have hatched and the lice begin their lives, their little bites can cause the itchiness and irritation that is a common manifestation of lice infestation.

Treating lice infestation involves the killing and removal of both the adult lice and nits in one way or another. Many different remedies have been used as a hair wash or applied to the scalp. Most head lice home remedies involve the use of oils from different sources in the preparation of these applications. These oils are massaged onto the scalp, and left on with the aid of a shower cap. After being left for 30 minutes up to an hour, the oils are then rinsed off using regular shampoo. Vinegar has also been mentioned as a way to kill off the nits and lice in the hair. This is also applied to hair and allowed to stay for some time before being rinsed off and the hair washed with shampoo.

Heat treatments are also recommended for the management of lice infestations. Hair dryers and hair-straightening curls have been mentioned in the fight against lice. The application of heat to the hair is said to kill off the lice and nits nesting there as these creatures would not be able to stand the temperature of the devices that are utilized.

Keeping the lice and nits off the hair is essential to the management of the lice infestation. This ensures that the lice population is properly eliminated. One common method often employed in the removal of nits is through the use of nit combs or lice combs. Hair combs may part the strands of hair but the spaces between the teeth of these combs may not be enough to remove the nits in the strands of hair. The nit combs that can be purchased have fine teeth that aid in the removal and eradication of the nits from someone’s hair. These combs are used on a person with a lice problem and can be used in conjunction with other hair-applied remedies to provide that one-two punch against the lice.

Head lice home remedies provide an economical and easier way to deal with the problems of lice infestations without much risk. While these remedies may seem unconventional, at the end of the day, they serve one purpose-to kill and remove lice and nits from the hair. Using these methods wouldn’t hurt anybody. What remains to be seen is how effective they are in dealing with the problem of lice infestations.

What do you do when you realized that your child has head lice? Well, the first thing that you probably will do is to buy a lice removal shampoo, hoping that it will kill them once and for all. However, do you know that you are putting pesticides on your child’s head when you use a medicated lice shampoo? For instance, nix is known to be an effective lice removal medication by the American Academy of Pediatrics, but few people are aware that it actually contains pesticides that can cause strong allergies on some people. Hence, alternative treatments for head lice are gaining popularity as more people are turning towards it.

Lice are those grown moving parasites while nits are also known as lice eggs. The easiest type of home remedy is to just comb out the nits with a lice comb while hair is still wet or using a pair of tweezers to pluck it out. You will need to do this over 7-10 days consecutively so that lice are thoroughly removed; thus this can be a very time consuming activity. Even after you used a lice removing shampoo, you will still need to comb out the nits.

Another natural home remedy is to apply Vaseline, mayonnaise or olive oil all you’re your child’s hair to suffocate the lice. After application, wear a shower cap over your child’s head, leave it on overnight and wash it away on the following morning. Although this can really be untidy, it does help in eliminating lice and nits by killing them through suffocation and will also prevent any new nits from sticking on hair. If you find it hard to remove those greasy residues, you can use vinegar to clean the hair.

Apart from D-I-Y treatment, you can also seek a doctor’s help to prescribe a topical medicine call ‘Ulesfia’ for treating head lice, which does not have any harmful pesticides in it. You have to apply them on hair and scalp so that they are entirely covered with Ulesfia. You also need to apply on the areas behind the ears and back of neck. Leave it intact for about 10-15 minutes before you wash it away. Ulesfia also works by smothering the head lice and you need to apply it again 1 week later.

Herbal home remedies such as tree oil or other essential oils are also another alternative in removing head lice. However, these are not regulated by FDA and are not as effective in killing lice thoroughly. Just by knowing home remedies for head lice is insufficient. You also need to be aware of how head lice infestation takes place and take preventive measures to keep them out of your homes. First you need to know that lice cannot fly because they do not have wings. However, lice can crawl and they are spread from one person to another through direct contact.

To protect your kids from catching head lice from other children in their schools, you can do a few preventive measures. For instance, your girls can tie their hair neatly and use some hair gel to tame their flyaway or frizzy hairs. You can also educate your children not to share personal items like coats, combs, hair-ties, hats and scarves with other kids, especially if the item has direct contact with hair and scalp. If you are unsure about whether your kids have lice problem, do seek consultation with a doctor to get confirmation before embarking on head lice home remedies.

It truly does not have to be a hard process to find a home cure for lice home remedies. Realize that we as a people have been fighting parasites for centuries. This means that naturally, we will have a larger variety of remedies other than just pharmaceutical kinds to address this issue. Head lice are a problem for many families with school age children. Our schools make the perfect breeding ground to transfer these pests from one child to another.

The battle against these bugs has allowed us to know how to effectively control and kill the louse no matter how serious the infestation.

Trying to find what lice home remedies work the best is one of the difficult things about finding information on the Internet. The problem is caused by the availability of freely provided information that has or has NOT been verified. Still, if you want to know what others have tried, you’re not alone.

The fight against this problem is personal. To win against these bugs, you need to take personal action to rid your home of the head louse.

A natural or home remedy for lice infection is almost a given as there are few places where you can go for effective treatment. Though there are some special salons in New York and other larger cities that specialize in treatments, the fact is that dealing with lice infestation and treatments is a home or do it yourself effort for most of us.

It doesn’t matter if you buy an over the counter product, order a natural solution or remedy, or even go to the doctor for a prescription to deal with the problem. All require you to take an active role in cleaning up the lice treatment

Here’s a Home cure and a cleaning opportunity to find the bugs where they may hide. Be aware that the home cure is one of the many found on the Internet and may not be effective in dealing with the problem. It’s offered as an example of some of the ideas that are claimed to work.

Home Cure Number 1: Mayonnaise

Of all the home remedies found on the web, there is a group that is simply hilarious to consider. Of this group, the most popular has to be the use of Mayonnaise. Now the idea is to smother or suffocate the lice. The only problem with this is that all food grade products placed in the hair aren’t effective killing agents.

Mayo, Olive Oil and the rest are great however to help slow the bugs to allow for easier combing and removal. Of course, you have the mess of the oil to deal with.

Visit the site link below for more knowledge of how to deal with this common insect.

Using so called cures such as this also usually requires that the food product be left in you hair overnight. While lice home remedies such as these may be considered natural, the fact that they require such a long treatment time is a problem especially for small children. Not only do they have bugs in their hair but now have food AND are wrapped in plastic or wearing a plastic shower cap! It’s to much for even many adults to bear.

Home Cure Idea Number 2: Disinfect Combs – Brushes and All Hair care Tools

After all the work to control or rid yourself from these pests, you may want to consider soaking your combs, brushes and all hair decorations to kill anything that may be left. A really good idea is to have an honest discussion with your kids how sharing these hair things with others outside the family is simply not a good idea. While we all want our kids to share, we definitely don’t want them to be sharing lice.

This does take some work but should be considered extra safety insurance to remove any left over bugs. Although the lice home remedies may kill all the bugs, removing any stuck nits or nymphs can be handled with this method.

Remember also that if you have a younger boy child you may want to simply cut his hair extremely short to work on the headlice.

The use of a special fine toothed comb is probably your best defense against yet another outbreak. It doesn’t matter if your treatment option of choice is over the counter insecticide products, drug store shampoo, insecticide based store shampoo, prescription shampoos or a more natural option, nit removal is simply good insurance against another outbreak.

While nit combs take awhile to use especially on longer hair, this is a good way to verify that all bugs have been removed. Even the latest in lice home remedies usually suggest this as good insurance just to make sure everything has been removed.

The lice home remedies work better at least emotionally when you know and can see that the bugs have all been removed. While actually being able to see that all the lice, nits and nymphs are gone is a big emotional benefit, not seeing them doesn’t mean your home is free from the problem. You will also need to continue to be on the lookout for several weeks just to be certain that a re-infestation doesn’t occur.

With 8 kids and 7 grandchildren (and counting), Abigail Franks writes on a range of subjects including <a href="http://www.lousenomore.com/lice/lice.html"target="_new" rel="nofollow" >Headlice problems.

Hair loss avoidance is a must, but many people found that it is harder to find a cure to help with this. Both among men and women hair loss is a general problem.

Other than viruses and bacteria, there are dangers that lurk around in the form of parasites-lice in particular. This is very common in school-aged children. If your child suffers from this, you might want to use home remedies for head lice. These are wingless parasites that thrive in human hairs and survive by sucking on paltry amount of human blood. Although these parasites are remotely dangerous, it may cause discomfort to your child.

They might often scratch their head and fail to concentrate in their studies. Plus, it can also be contagious as these can transfer to the parents as well, which can be very embarrassing. If the scalp gets irritated, it may lead to inflammation and infection, something that we should really avoid.

If you notice your child vigorously scratching their head, inspect their hair for signs of nits. These are the eggs of these parasites. They usually cling to the hair strands and are difficult to get rid of.

The nits are usually yellow or brown in color when they still haven’t hatched yet. It turns to white or clear when it has already hatched. If you find a lot of hatched nits, then there are already adult parasites somewhere on the scalp. You can usually find them close to the nape or near the back of the ears.

Parents can use medicated shampoos to kill these parasites and the nits. You can buy these at your local drugstore. Until the head is completely parasite-free, the scratching will still persist. Just be careful in choosing what product is safe to use. If you are scared of the safety of your child, you can try a highly effective but less aggressive method like home remedies for head lice tried and tested by many people.

You can try getting the juice of onion. It might stink but it really works. Apply the juice on the scalp and spread to the roots of the hair. Keep it on for about 3 hours and wash it off. You can also try preparing a paste made out of custard apple. Apply it on your hair and scalp and leave it on overnight and just wash it off in the morning. This is not just good for getting rid of parasites and nits but also good in treating dandruff.

One to try is good old vinegar mixed with water. Soak cotton in this mixture and thinly apply on your hair. Wrap it with cloth and leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning. Mixing garlic juice with lemon juice also works. Massage the concoction and leave it on when you go to bed. This will effectively get rid of the parasites.

These home remedies for head lice are already easy and effective but if you want an easier and a more effective natural treatment, try a product called Naughty Nits Shampoo. This product gets rid of those pesky parasites and can discourage them from coming back. This contains non toxic components such as Lavender, Neem and Rosemary which contains natural properties that are hostile to parasites.

This is a product perfect for your kids. It is safe for them to use and will not destroy the natural luster of their hair. You can try home remedies for head lice or a product called Naughty Nits shampoo-whatever floats your boat. Just make sure it is completely natural. Get rid of those unwanted creatures with the help of these.

There’s no quick fix to cellulite. The best way to reduce it is to fight it with a combination of a healthy diet, exercise, <a href="http://www.bodycellulite.com"target="_new" >cellulite cream and treatment.
